Tropical Storm Isaias A Lesson In Disaster Recovery

Disaster Recovery Lessons Learned During Tropical Storm Isaias

Company News | August 10, 2020

Tropical Storm Isaias a lesson in disaster recovery tested DICE’s recovery technologies. Yet, with the help of another monitoring company, we were able to keep our client operations up and running.

What can a central station do when hit by a tropical storm? What happens when their building and equipment are underwater? That was the situation this week when a company affected by Tropical Storm Isaias was left without power, and needed assistance. Both DICE Corporation and Tristar Monitoring stepped in to help.

When Tim LeBlanc, president and co-founder of Tristar Monitoring, got the DICE call, asking if he was willing to assist, his immediate response was ‘Absolutely.’

Tristar had been in the same position before, aiding a central station in Florida for two months, while the company returned to full operations. The three companies’ IT teams got together, and Tristar was receiving full services, including all signals and phone calls, in only 45 minutes.

Many of the signals Tristar received were low battery, power failures, and service calls. DICE helped clean the buffer and transferred the service calls back to the service technicians at the affected central station. DICE’s integrated iPBX solution, fully integrated with Matrix, enabled Tristar to efficiently process and manage all calls no matter the rate or load.

As everyone knows, this is a challenging time we live, and disasters come in all shapes and sizes, from natural disasters to pandemics. Tropical Storm Isaias A Lesson In Disaster Recovery shows how unexpected situations can arise and the need to be prepared.

Through this situation, DICE and Tristar have shown themselves to be extremely versatile DICE in their software, products, and support, and Tristar in their willingness to help a fellow competitor.

The process of transferring the signals to Tristar was a seamless process that was made easier by both central stations being DICE customers and on the Matrix platform. But even if a central station is not on the Matrix platform, DICE has solutions for them as well – without needing to change their automation monitoring software.

The bottom line is that with DICE’s disaster recovery and business continuity solutions, Tristar, and other central stations, are not only ready for any unforeseen disaster but also enjoy peace of mind, knowing they are fully covered.
